Elena Moro

Elena Moro is a Ph.D. candidate in Italian literature at the University of Zurich and a visiting scholar at Florida State University for Fall 2026. She holds a master’s degree in Italian studies, jointly offered by the University of Zurich and Sapienza University of Rome. Since May 2023, she has been working as a teaching and research assistant in Italian literature at the University of Zurich and collaborates with the journals altrelettere and Rivista Internazionale di Studi Leopardiani.

Her research focuses on Faustina Maratti Zappi (1679(?)–1745), a prominent figure in the cultural circles of early 18th century Rome and one of the most highly regarded poets of the Academy of Arcadia. Her current research project aims to provide a monographic study of Maratti Zappi, combining a biographical reconstruction with an analysis of her literary production and an investigation of the relationship between her writing and the cultural context of her time. Her approach is informed by a gender perspective that examines the specific position of a woman writer in early 18th-century Italy, as well as themes that particularly characterize Maratti Zappi’s work, including female models of virtue, gender-based violence and motherhood.
